Verification Statistics
(2008-02-31-High tech Security solutions) Statistics obtained from EMPS over the three months,
October-December2007, showed:
· 4% of all checks had criminal records;
· 22% had some financial record;
· 12% had false qualifications; and
· 26% of drivers licenses could not be verified
(2008-04-16 Workplace) Government and the Private sector have a major problem with bogus
qualifications. At the moment about 14% of qualifications sent out for verifications turn out to be false.
That includes matric certificates to degrees and diplomas.
(2008-02-03 SABC News) Media reported that "more than two-thirds" of Shaik's 2003 PhD in
Mechanical Engineering from then 'University of Natal had been plagiarised and an inquiry had been
set up. Shaik has repeatedly denied any allegations of plagiarism.
